“One of five American men is unemployed. In some states, a third of people out of work have been looking for more than a year,” says AJ Discala.
For those who are looking for a job, AJ Discala believes presentation and enthusiasm
are critical. “We’re currently hiring and what I’m looking for is simple: a resume
without typos, with relevant work experience; a personalized cover letter explaining
why they want the job. If we don’t contact them for an interview, they can follow up
with us on the phone. I like to see initiative,” says AJ Discala.
AJ Discala also believes the person should do their homework. “When they walk
through the door for the interview, they need to be able to explain what the company
does, but they should have questions. They should know what has made them successful
in their previous work environments, and they should be able to explain it.”
“And they need to look the part,” says Discala.
And for those who have a job, AJ Discala says, “You should show up every day with an
appreciative attitude. Prove yourself every day. Be grateful for the opportunity to
work. And get a lot done.”
